During the normal process of aging muscles lose their tone and elasticity. In regards the vagina, it changes from a tight but easily stretchable passageway into one which has been loosened through stretching. The PC muscle is not easily identifiable by sensation and not easily controlled. So, it takes practice to build up the muscle strength as well as to enhance its control. Simply having a stronger PC muscle will enhance the sensations during orgasm, but even this can be improved upon. During sex the woman can deliberately squeeze and massage the penis in a variety of ways, thus making intercourse more sensual. It is not difficult to master the Kegel exercises, but it does require a commitment to do the exercises.
Identifying the PC Muscle.
There are a couple ways to "find" the PC muscle. One is to stand in the shower and urinate. When you try to stop the flow, you are using the PC muscle. If you are told to "tighten your bottom" by "squeezing down there," you are also probably doing the same thing. You should also lie down and insert a finger in your vagina; when you squeeze the PC, you should feel the opening contract around your finger. The stronger the grip, the stronger your PC muscle is. When you contract the PC muscle, your anus should also be contracting, but if you feel your thighs, stomach, or buttocks contracting, then you are using other muscles besides the PC.
Exercise Regimen.
The basic beginning routine is to practice each exercise at least three times a day, which is the minimum. Normally you can begin with ten repetitions, and as you are able gradually increase the number until you can easily do twenty repetitions in a single series. Exercise 1: The Three Second Squeeze
Squeeze the PC muscle and hold for 3 seconds, relax for 3 seconds, and squeeze one last time for 3 seconds. This is one repetition; repeat for the appropriate number of times. If the muscle is very weak you will not be able to hold it for 3 seconds. If so, hold it for the length you can, and then as it gets stronger work your way up.
Exercise 2: The Flutter Squeeze
This is similar to the Three Second Squeeze, except that instead of trying for a hard, long squeeze, you want to squeeze and release as rapidly as possible, like a fluttering butterfly.
